Summer Ice Cream in Jersey City

July 11, 2016

What’s more satisfying than ice cream on a warm summer’s day? Jersey City has some of the best and unique ice cream spots in Hudson County.  Whether you’re looking for ice cream sandwiches, interesting flavors, ice cream cakes or vegan/gluten free/nondairy options, we have it all! Each of the following stores are special in their own way (and delicious).

Torico’s has been a neighborhood favorite since 1986.  They usually have a line formed out the door but its quick and worth the wait! Torico’s has been recognized by publications such as The New York Times for their 65 homemade flavors, fresh and natural ingredients and customer service.  Some of their favorites are green tea, coconut cream, pistachio, strawberry cheesecake and their passion fruit sorbet which is perfect for summer.  They also sell birthday cakes.

Milk Sugar Love churns delicious ice cream made from organic milk and cream and they use all fresh New Jersey produce for their unique ice cream flavors.  MSL prides themselves by working with farmers and local artisan producers to create fresh and delicious desserts.  In 2013 their chocolate peppermint ice cream was named one of the best dishes of the year by Pete Genovesse of The Star Ledger.  They serve specialty flavors such as honey cornflake, bacon breakfast, carrot cake, rose pistachio and beer’n’pretzels.  Their ice cream sandwiches are also a hit.  If you loved fruity pebbles as a kid than you’ll want to try their fruity pebble mac daddy!

Bucket & Bay Craft Gelato Co has been committed to creating eccentric and fresh flavors since they opened.  The owners make sure they use the best ingredients possible and only products they love.  Bucket & Bay uses 100% grass-fed milk and this shop is unique because they serve alcohol infused gelato! Some of the local favorites are black label vanilla (alcohol infused), strawberry & port (alcohol infused), rose latte and toasted coconut.  Check out their website for upcoming gelato making classes and private events.
