For many of us, October is one of best times of the year. Halloween is a big reason for that, with all the candy, crazy costumes, and one of the best party nights of the years. In Jersey City, there are many spooky activities to enjoy in preparation for All Hallow’s Eve, starting with a visit to the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery.
Saturdays in October are great for visiting the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery. Volunteers work every Saturday from 9am – 1pm, and tours of the grounds, including the underground bunker from the War of 1812, are offered to visitors. Just a 6 block walk from the Grove Street PATH or the Journal Square PATH stations, this is a very special Jersey City landmark being operated and restored by volunteers. Check their website at or their Facebook page for more information.
If you’re looking for some fun on Halloween, the Van Vorst Park Association is hosting an event, “It’s Halloween–Shake your Ghoul Thing,” on the 31st from 7:30-11pm. The party will be held at the haunted Barrow Mansion. The event will be filled with spooky beverages, ghoulish grub, and devilish dancing. Invite your friends or neighbors and make this adults-only party your very own Monster Mash! There will be costume prizes handed out so make sure to dress to the nines. If you sign up before October 20th, they’ll even include a free drink with your ticket purchase!
