In New Jersey, which is truly the ‘Garden State,’ there’s a perfect season for all of our favorite fruits and vegetables. This holds true for one of our summertime favorite fruits – strawberries!
Here in Jersey City, there are tons of farms located near our Madox apartments that offer a green getaway and a way for visitors to do their own strawberry picking. If you’re looking for a fun weekend activity for the whole family, check out one of these farms this Saturday or Sunday before the end of the strawberry season!
Wightman’s Farms, located at 1111 Mt. Kemble Ave., Morristown which is about 45 minutes from your Madox apartment, is a family owned and operated farm since 1922 featuring hay rides, animals and pick-your-own programs throughout the year.
To get started picking your strawberries at Wightman’s Farms, a family only has to pay $15, which includes two reusable bags, coupons for the farm, and water bottles for up to five people.
Stony Hill Gardens, located at 8 State Rt. 24, Chester which is about an hour from your Madox apartment, is a family owned business in the heart of New Jersey that provides fresh produce, plants, baked goods and fun for the whole family.
Here, visitors can pick their own strawberries on two acres of land from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week. Strawberries cost $3.99 a pound and entry costs $2.99 per person, which includes picking boxes and access to the rope maze, tile maze and barnyard boardgames.
