Best Froyo in Jersey City

February 27, 2018

Spring is right around the corner but let’s be honest…froyo is a delicious treat that can be enjoyed all year round.  There are some great spots close to your Madox apartment which have froyo and also deliver it right to your door!

Downtown Yogurt – This is probably one of the most popular frozen yogurt spots in Jersey City.  There flavors are so good, you won’t even know it’s healthier than ice cream! There is a huge array of toppings, from cereal to candy of all sorts, mochi, boba, fruit, Nutella, sprinkles, cannoli cream, rainbow cookies, cheesecake bites, flavored syrups, and cookies. The Dole Whips (soft serve pineapple-flavored frozen ice which is best served with vanilla custard) seem to be a big hit in the community as well.  There’s seating inside along with outdoor seating for warmer months. In addition to their tasty frozen yogurt, the employees are extremely helpful and friendly and will let you test different flavors so you can perfect your cup or cone.  They also recently added an acai bowl counter.

Red Mango – Their award-winning, nonfat frozen yogurt has it all – calcium, protein and delicious flavor. Unlike other desserts that often contain artificial ingredients or excessive calories from fat and sugar, Red Mango frozen yogurt is all-natural, nonfat or lowfat, and certified gluten-free.

Torico Ice Cream – This establishment is known for their homemade ice cream and ice cream cakes, but they also have tasty frozen yogurt.

Dinner and a Movie in Jersey City

February 23, 2018

Just one of the many perks of living in Jersey City is having everything a few steps from your door.  Madox residents have a great movie theater just a 25-minute walk or 20-minute light rail ride away. The AMC in Newport Plaza has comfortable reclining chairs and is located in the mall so you can even shop and dine before your show.  We think the perfect date night could be dinner at Zinburger, which just opened, or Cheesecake Factory followed by a movie.  Two movies we recommend are Black Panther and Game Night.

Zinburger – If you love burgers, salads, milkshakes and wine than this is the perfect spot to check out before the movie.  Some of their favorites are the Zinburger (Manchego ehecse, zinfandel braised onions, lettuce & mayo), breakfast burger (fried egg, Applewood smoked bacon, avocado, American Cheese, lettuce & mayo), Kobe Burger and the chicken sandwich.  If you have a sweet tooth you’ll love their dessert menu…trust us! They also have a nice outdoor dining terrace you can enjoy during the warmer months.

Cheesecake Factory – We are big fans of Cheesecake Factory’s happy hour which is Monday through Friday 4pm-6pm.  The happy hour menu includes $5.00 bites and drinks, making it the perfect spot before or after a movie.  Their regular menu has pages of items to choose from so you can’t go wrong dining here!

American Eats at Latham House of Jersey City

February 28, 2017

Jersey City doesn’t seem to disappoint when it comes to new restaurants.  June 2017 will mark Latham House’s one year anniversary but they are still receiving praise from all over the metro area.  If you’re someone who loves a nice rustic setting while enjoying dinner or brunch with friends, then you’ll want to make a reservation at Latham House of Jersey City ASAP!

It won’t be long until everyone in Jersey City is dining outside enjoying fresh air, drinks and of course…delicious food. Latham House has indoor and outdoor seating and has created quite a buzz in the community.  Their beautiful interior consists of dark wood, white walls and a long row of beautiful grey-marbled tabletops, all of which help the restaurant stand out.

Chef and owner, Dan Latham grew up in Upstate New York and studied cooking at the Culinary Institute of America.  Latham House serves American cuisine and the menu has influences from his up-bringing on the East Coast along with his wife’s West Coast background. Some signature dishes you can look forward to are the Cuban Reuben sandwich made with tender corned beef (cooked for 12 hours), special mustard sauce, spicy slaw and fries. Keep this sandwich in mind for St. Patrick’s Day! If you’re looking for a comfort dish, you must try their chicken pot pie or the Thai Bouillabaisse made with seafood in a curry coconut broth.  The burgers are also a popular item at this Jersey City eatery.

Stop by their happy hour every Tuesday-Friday from 2pm-7pm. We suggest their Turnpike Martini (Grey Goose Le Poire, pear nectar, lemon-ginger syrup) or the Latham Bloody during the weekend.

Hosting your Own Oscar Party at Madox

February 25, 2016

It’s that time of year again! The Oscars will be airing this Sunday, February 28th. Here’s are some tips to help you win “Best Oscar Party” for 2016 if you’re thinking of hosting your own party this year at your Madox apartment.

During the Oscars you’ll notice that most of the celebrities are drinking champagne. You can buy an inexpensive gold champagne bucket and ask that each guest/couple bring their own bottle of their favorite champagne or Prosecco. To make clean up easier (also cost effective) you can buy the plastic champagne flutes and jazz them up a bit with gold and silver permanent marker. A martini bar is an easy way to entertain as well. Tito’s vodka is gluten free and a crowd pleaser, perfect for your at-home martini bar. Add some olives, tooth picks and plastic martini glasses and you’re all set!

Another fun idea is to create an Oscar photo booth. You can make cut out Oscars, your own party clappers and of course champagne glasses. Here are some other ideas for your photo booth. Don’t forget about the red carpet! Party City has a 15 foot red carpet runner for just $6.99, the perfect centerpiece for any awards-themed party.

As with any party, most importantly you need some good snacks for your Oscar party You don’t have to be a celebrity chef to keep your guests pleased, so here are some fancy finger food ideas:

Now sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
