Outdoor Brunch Spots in Jersey City

April 30, 2018

As we’re sure you know, there are tons of restaurants in Jersey City where you can enjoy brunch close to your Madox apartment.  Below are a few outdoor spots you may not have tried yet that you’ll want to check out this spring.

Frankie – The owners of Frankie built this restaurant upon their love of travel, coastal destinations, and their home, Sydney Australia. They are known for their organic wines, monthly events and eccentric cuisine which has an Australian flare. Some of their favorites off the dinner menu are their meat pie (Wagyu steak, onions, peas, salad & house cut fries), fish and chips, and their small plates such as the grain bowl with lentils, barley, sweet potato and wild rice served with a fried egg.  Their brunch menu includes favorites such as the fish sandwich, crab scramble and their Aussie burger with a fried egg, pickles, cheddar cheese and garlic aioli…yum! They also have outdoor dining during the warmer months.

The Kitchen Step –  A downtown neighborhood bistro that celebrates Jersey City’s rich history and delivers delicious market-inspired cuisine and craft cocktails in an intimate atmosphere. The Kitchen Step serves brunch and dinner and has a lovely outdoor seating area that you can take advantage of this spring. The owners have two other successful venues; Battello in Jersey City (which is reopening this summer) and The Turtle Club in Hoboken.

Buddy Who’s – This restaurant opened a couple months ago and is already a favorite in Jersey City. If you love breakfast food, you’ll be happy to hear they serve brunch all day on the weekends! Their cereal pancakes (Trix, Lucky Charms and Coco Pebbles) seem to be a big hit for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Rooftop Bars in Jersey City

April 25, 2018

It feels like spring has (finally) set in and people in Jersey City are out and about enjoying the beautiful fresh air.  Lucky for Madox residents your apartment building has a gorgeous rooftop deck with spectacular views of Jersey City and New York City that you can take advantage of everyday during the warmer months. However, if you’re looking to venture to a restaurant or bar for some rooftop drinks, here’s some spots to check out.

Rooftop at Exchange Place – This is the newest terrace and rooftop addition to Jersey City.  The RoofTop at Exchange Place bar is open for lunch and dinner or it’s the perfect spot for happy hour and pre-dinner drinks with friends. Their food and beverages are focused on market driven ingredients and seasonal specialties which are perfectly presented to their guests. The terrace has been open for a few months, but the grand opening of their rooftop bar is on April 26th at 6pm.  There will be live music and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Porta – The Porta in Asbury may have the beach, but Jersey City’s Porta has a fun rooftop and is right by the PATH station that brings you directly into New York City.  You can start out with a few drinks on the rooftop here and head into the city or finish the night there having dinner and dancing to the weekend DJ’s.

Skinner’s Loft – This rooftop is small and intimate and makes it the perfect spot for a date night or a low-key dinner with friends. A lot of people don’t know Skinner’s Loft has a rooftop, but we promise you it’s worth checking out. Plus, the food is amazing!

SciChella at Liberty Science Center

April 16, 2018

You might have missed Coachella this year, but you can make up for it at SciChella at Liberty Science Center on April 19th. This event will honor Coachella season and LSC will add their own scientific twist to the famous California festival. Enjoy a mix of art and tech, meet talented artists and grab some delicious bites and drinks all night long.

They’ll have some activities which can be found at Coachella such as a giant slide (great for pictures/videos), arts and crafts (a flower crown making booth) and you’ll be able to make your own tie-dye slime.  LSC also has a new exhibit: Dream Machine. It’s an interactive, sensory exhibit that combines smell with sound, touch, and light to create a fun and new experience.

At SciChella, they’ll be nine local artists who touch upon everything from visual art to fashion, four DJ’s and you can feel the science of sound with their musical Tesla coils.  They will also have festival-style food from Midnight Market, an Amaretto tasting (courtesy of Jersey City Buy-Rite), a specialty bar, and more. While you’re partying, you can climb through the Infinity Climber, and find your way through the Touch Tunnel. Don’t forget to catch two shows in the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium: The Foo Fighters Laser Show and the Saturn, LIVE! planetarium show.

Best Spots for Eggs Benedict in Jersey City

April 13, 2018

Many of you may not know this, but April 16th is National Eggs Benedict Day.  Unfortunately, that falls on a Monday this year, but you can celebrate a day early with a delicious dish this weekend. Whether you want to make this classic breakfast in your apartment, or treat yourself to brunch, we have you covered! Lucky for Madox residents, Jersey City has quite a few places that are known for their brunches. Here are a few spots we recommend:

Latham House – If you haven’t checked out this restaurant yet, add it to your “to-do” list.  They do a classic eggs benedict with a twist by adding asparagus (so you’re getting your veggies too). Of course, if you don’t enjoy veggies while indulging in brunch they will happily remove it for you! They also have delicious brunch cocktails such as Caribbean, pear and ginger-orange mimosas, Kahlua hot chocolate, and Bloody Mary’s.

Skinner’s Loft – We love Skinner’s Loft cozy ambiance.  It’s located on Newark Ave across from some great bars (if you’re looking to extend your Saturday/Sunday funday).  They serve a classic eggs benedict on their house-made buttermilk biscuits.  They are delicious!

The Hamilton Inn – It’s no surprise that this restaurant has one of the best eggs benedict dishes in Jersey City as they were voted one of the best brunch restaurants in the country by OpenTable.  They serve a classic eggs benedict and have a grass-fed filet mignon eggs benedict as well. The Hamilton Inn also serves delicious brunch cocktails.

Make sure to tag #NationalEggsBenedictDay on social media wherever you go so you can see how other people observed this foodie holiday!

Consignment Shopping around Jersey City #BeTheGreen

April 14, 2016

New York City is known for their classy and eccentric sense of style, and Jersey City is quickly becoming a honorary borough in the NY fashion scene.  In honor of Bozzuto’s #BeTheGreen campaign for Earth Day, we put together a list of the best consignment shops since buying vintage clothing is a great way to recycle. No matter what your style is, you’ll be dressed to impress with these shops!

Another Man’s Treasure is right in Jersey City and was stablished in 2006, Another Man’s Treasure has been included in both USA today, and Elle.com‘s best places to shop vintage in America. New items are added to the shop every day, providing its customers with the best vintage clothing – seasonally appropriate and on-trend – at affordable prices is obvious in their selection. Their vintage finds have graced the pages of such noted publications as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, New York Magazine, Time Out NY, & many more.

Buffalo Exchange is probably the most well-known consignment shop throughout New Jersey and New York.  You can buy, sell and trade and this place has everything you’re looking for and more.  Whether its band tees, blazers for work, oversized flannels of funky lightly worn shoes, they have it all! The prices are great and you don’t need an appointment to sell clothing but be prepared to wait at least 30-45 minutes on the weekends.  Don’t worry you can shop around while they go through your stuff J

Beacon’s Closet is also a buy-sell-trade shop in Park Slope, Brooklyn.  You will find real gems at this place but it is known to be crowded on the weekends.  They do have a website where you can shop online however in-store prices are a little better so we suggest visiting the store.  On their website you’ll also find a blog with fashion ideas.

Eleven Boutique is a very classy consignment shop.  You’ll find expensive name brands like Chanel, Prada and Saint Laurent.  If you’re someone who likes your name brands than you may want to skip the others and head over to this boutique! You can choose between selling on the spot or consignment.

Healthy Living in Jersey City

April 8, 2016

In April, Bozzuto is challenging all of it’s residents to #BeTheGreen, and seek out ways in which they can live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. We’ve found a few local businesses in Jersey City who take this message to heart all year round!

Modern Sage is a healing center and retail store in downtown Jersey City which sells essential oils, meditation classes, acupuncture and reflexology. They recently had a booth at the Jersey City Fitness Fair and sell their vegan makeup both in their store and online. If you’re looking for eco-friendly products, this is a great place to check for some of their unique green products.

Another local company we learned about at the Jersey City Fitness Fair was Bread and Spoon. This local eatery offers all organic produce from sustainable farms and is a great place to pick-up items for cooking or already prepared meals. They also provide customers recipes for making dinners using their fresh ingredients.  The infamous Bambino Chef had a booth set up at the Jersey City Fitness Fair and was a hit with the crowds. You can get more information on her cooking classes online and learn how you can make some delicious healthy meals right in your Madox kitchen.
